Michigan’s students have fallen behind in the most important skill they’ll ever learn: reading. And when children can’t read by third grade, the consequences can last a lifetime—affecting confidence, graduation rates, workforce readiness, and Michigan’s economic future.
Michigan ranks 44th in the nation for fourth-grade reading. 87% of Michigan schools do worse than similar schools nationally on math scores.
Parents across the state already know something is wrong. Their children aren’t learning, and their future is at stake.
